Tip #1

Understand the sourcing process

We love the pedal-to-the-metal, gung-ho attitude of entrepreneurs, but slow down a minute! Understanding what is actually involved at each stage of the sourcing process will save you a lot of time, money, and hair loss in the long run.
The Product Sourcing Process

Our process at Epic Sourcing

Importing from China, or any other low-cost region, can seem like a daunting task. So, at Epic Sourcing we break the process down into 3 main stages for our clients:
Step 1
Plan

Every business is unique, so we’ll discuss the products you want to source
and put together a plan
that’s tailor made to your needs.

Step 2
Source

We’ll find you the right supplier
or manufacturer, order
high-quality samples, and help you communicate like a pro.

Step 3
Ship

We’ll get your products from A to Z on time and at the right price. We even have a team on the ground to conduct quality checks before your products ship.

Getting familiar with the stages of the sourcing process will help you make an effective plan and reduce the likelihood of running into unforeseen roadblocks along the way.

When our company needs to verify suppliers, TK from Epic Sourcing will always go above and beyond to deliver our requirements on time. We are always provided with a detailed report and efficient information to make the right decision prior to ordering with overseas factories. With having been importing for the past 5-years, we understand the importance of due diligence in choosing the right factories from the beginning, this is where TK's expertise is essential. We have found that TK's service is very affordable, efficient and it's a pleasure to continue working with TK and the team from Epic Sourcing

Tip #3

Import quality products from reputable suppliers

If you’re looking to build a successful eCommerce business, you need to build a reputable brand. And nothing kills a brand like poor quality products. Many startups that enter into competitive markets think they need to undercut the pricing of their competition to make their mark. Not true. Consumer product markets are flooded with low-quality options from China, and there is often an opportunity to take a generic product and enter the market with a high-quality alternative, with a mid-range price point. You see this happening in the consumer electronics industry with brands like KZ, which make very high-quality headphones without the high price tag.
Brands like KZ have helped develop the Chinese Hi-Fi market. High quality, affordable price

Taking some time to find the right suppliers and working with them to produce products that align with your brand, and that your customers will love, is at the heart of what we do with our clients at Epic Sourcing. And it’s a strategy that your business can employ too. So forget about importing the world's cheapest, flimsiest toothbrush, and source a recyclable, ergonomic, sustainably sourced tooth-brush instead.

Tip #5

Always. Order. Samples.

“A picture is worth a thousand words”
-
someone who has never sourced products from China before.

If you’re sourcing products from B2B sites like Alibaba, the pictures rarely tell the full story. Samples are the best way to assess product quality, and will give you a taste of what it’s like working with a potential supplier.

Another option is to engage the services of a sourcing agency with a team on the ground to assess product quality, take detailed photos, and conduct factory visits. This is an added expense, but can speed up the process significantly as you don’t have to wait for samples to be shipped to you.

Support with ordering samples was such a common request from our clients, that we created a special service just for that purpose. It’s called The Product Wizard and you can learn more about it here.
