Custom manufacturing means building a product to your own specifications — your design, dimensions, materials, and branding. Custom manufacturing takes longer and costs more upfront but produces a proprietary product your competitors can't easily replicate.
A detailed tech pack speeds up the process significantly. However, Epic Sourcing can work with sketches, reference products, or conceptual briefs at an early stage and help develop specifications as the project progresses.
Simple custom products (packaging, basic accessories) typically take 8–12 weeks from brief to goods in NZ. Complex products with tooling and multiple sample rounds can take 4–6 months. Epic Sourcing provides a realistic timeline at the scoping stage.
Yes. Epic Sourcing sources custom products from both China and Vietnam. Vietnam is particularly strong for custom clothing, activewear, footwear, furniture, and natural fibre products. China covers a much wider range of product categories.
It depends on the product. Electronics need RCM certification. Products with natural materials may need MPI biosecurity treatment. Children's products must meet safety standards. Labelling must comply with the Fair Trading Act. Epic Sourcing flags all applicable requirements at the product brief stage.
