What this work has taught me

I used to work for an industry company and attended a lot of different trade fairs, meeting a lot of different clients. What I found was that clients did not only want one certain product. They would ask for help getting all sorts of other things too. So I started helping them source products from China, and that is how I got into sourcing work.

I used to obsess over making the right decision. I learned the hard way that there is no right path, only the path you choose to make right. If I could do it differently, I would change how long I spent beating myself up over decisions. I would give myself permission to fail faster, learn quicker, and move on.

Outside work I travel and play tennis.

How Kate works on a project

Kate comes in with the Epic Sourcing team once a client has confirmed they want to go ahead. From there it is the actual work: finding suitable suppliers, then following production and shipping through to the client.

When I present the supplier options, I explain why to choose this one. Not only because of the price, but because of the full service from the supplier's side, which is what I see when I deal with them day to day.

She sources across electronics, home goods, apparel, machinery and fast moving consumer goods, and works from the view that every supply chain runs on the same four things: material cost, labour skill, quality consistency and lead time reliability. Knowing that is what lets her find the right factory quickly in a category she has not worked in before.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Kate Pang?

Kate Pang is a Case Manager at Epic Sourcing, based in Shanghai, China. She has worked in sourcing since 2019, has audited more than 100 factories, and joined Epic Sourcing in 2026.

Out of these suppliers, which one do you recommend?

Compare fully loaded costs, not just the unit price. That means including shipping, quality control, communication time, lead time, and how predictable the supplier is. The cheapest quote often is not the cheapest outcome once those are counted.

What does Kate specialise in?

Finding suppliers, quality control, contract negotiation, inventory management and third-party logistics. Third-party logistics, often shortened to 3PL, means outsourcing warehousing and shipping to another company.

Can Kate source in a category she has not worked in before?

Yes. She has sourced across electronics, home goods, apparel, machinery and fast moving consumer goods, and works from the principle that every supply chain in every industry runs on the same things: material cost, labour skill, quality consistency and lead time reliability. That is what makes finding the right factory in a new category quick rather than slow.
